(LTE) Only Libertarians offer an anti-annexation plank
From Mshiltonj wiki
The May 12 AP article "State's annexing rules debated" missed the fact that, as part of the Stop N.C. Annexation event supporting the end of forced annexation, the Libertarian Party was there.
Many Libertarian representatives were at the event, including Barbara Howe, former chair of the state party and 2004 Libertarian gubernatorial nominee.
Forced annexation is an equal opportunity offender and a nonpartisan issue. If you live in an area threatened by a city with plans to annex your property without your consent, and forcing you to pay all the additional costs of living in the city, it doesn't matter if you are a Libertarian, a Democrat or a Republican. The only thing that matters is the value of your property. The only thing that matters is how much the city can grow its tax base.
It must be noted, however, that the Libertarian Party of North Carolina includes opposition to forced annexation as part of its official platform. The plank reads, "The LPNC opposes forced annexation by municipalities. All annexation should be subject to the direct approval of those living in areas proposed to be annexed."
In stark contrast, the state party platforms of the two incumbent parties are silent on the issue. In that sense, then, it truly is a partisan issue. The Libertarian Party is the only recognized party in the state that opposes forced annexation.
